4 Tips + Tricks for a Successful and Stress-Free Office Fit-Out

Poor workspace design can lead to low morale, stress, and even dips in productivity. And believe it or not, a whopping 97% of professionals say their current office design has drained their ability to focus to some extent. And nearly 50% said the existing design “heavily impacts” their productivity. Whether you’re moving offices or remodeling your current space, a successful office fit-out is key to an impressively executed commercial space.

Today, we’re sharing our top tips and tricks to ensure a successful and stress-free fit-out experience for you and your team.

1. Hire professionals

It can be tempting to try to tackle an office fit-out by yourself, especially if you have an eye for design. But for something as complex as this, it’s best to work with professionals. To find a fit-out partner who’s perfect for the job, you’ll want to do a little research. Be sure to check that your consultant has experience working within your sector and always ask to see examples of their previous projects.

2. Define your goals ahead of time

Office fit-outs are complicated. Period. And if you don’t take the time to define your goals far in advance, your fit-out can become even more complex (and costly). Before you even reach out to a commercial designer, sit down with your management team to determine what it is that’s driving you to pursue an office redesign and the outcomes you are hoping to achieve. Involving employees will help ensure you create a workspace that is conducive to productivity and overall employee happiness.

3. Set a budget and stick to it

Imagine getting halfway through your project only to find you’ve run out of money! This scenario is worse than never actually starting your project. Fit-out costs are often some of the biggest expenses companies will have. So before any work commences, you’ll want to set a budget and ensure that you can stick to it.

Keep in mind with any type of project that involves a lot of moving pieces, things can (and most likely will) go wrong at some point. The furniture you had picked out could be back-ordered. The IT set-up may be more complex than initially thought. Or perhaps you forgot to factor in storage costs in your initial calculation.

Whatever you do, be sure to give yourself a little wiggle room.

4. Understand the process

If the end of your lease is quickly approaching, it’s probably become apparent that there’s a lot of work to do before you move into your new space. And by a lot, we mean a lot. Even if you’re just reworking your current space, the process is probably more involved than you might initially realize.

As you vet consulting companies, be sure to ask questions about their process and expected project timeline.
